Calling on my fellow stitchers for ideas

A friend of mine and her husband are expecting their first child this September and I've been trying to figure out a nice piece to stitch for them. They're not finding out the sex of the child until the birth, so that makes it a little harder to narrow down. They've decided to go with a jungle animal theme, but they don't really have any specific colors or anything in mind.

The closest I can find to something resembling a theme are the hooks they've selected:

What I need now is a project that fits this theme. Any thoughts or ideas on what I could stitch?

Well, i'm not too sure about this but perhaps a Noah's Ark theme. That would count all the animals!!

I'm in the same situation! Around me there are five friends (they all are my DEAR friends...) are pregnant now! So I would like to stitch them, but I'm also thinking about what to stitch for them, as I'm slow stitcher I want to sttitch them before they give a birth (except name area...).
I searched a lot about birth (baby) sampler and found some, but in the jungle theme, I don't think they suit well with it...
Just Nan's baby sampler, there are many animals or insetcts etc... but too elegant???

Or how about "Baby Spots" by Trilogy?
I'm going to stitch this for some of them.
It's not jungle theme, but it's very lovely and I think suit well with those hooks! :D

The Omnibook of Babies by Jeanette Crews Designs has a wide selection of jungle/safari/tropical patterns, including a jungle birth sampler. The book also contains a bunch of bib patterns, blankets, and a Mother Goose sampler.

The bigger question is do you want something that will last a lifetime (like a birth sampler) or something that will be primarily for childhood? When I stitch birth samplers, I rely less on a theme and look more towards something that the child might appreciate as an adult, like the Just Nan pieces someone else recommended.

Here's an idea I've seen before...but what about stitched blocks? An animal on each block, and maybe fill in the other block sides with letters (the gift I saw had one letter on each block for the child's name, which you obviously won't know till after it's born.) When the stitcher stuffed them, she tucked a little bell into the center of each block.

Stoney Creek has a new leaflet titled Jungle Babies. Also there is a pattern by Ellen-Maurer Stroh called Monkey Baby in the Jungle.
Here's the link:

I think she has a number of animal related themes.
Hope this helps!

I stitched the Historical Sampler Company's "Alphabet Sampler" for Tiny R. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I think it fits your theme perfectly, I've emailed you a link to the webpage in case you are interested.

I just bought Bothy Thread's Animal Alphabet to stitch for my DD - it's not strictly a jungle theme but it's so cute it's worth a look :)

DMC also have a range called 'Wild Ones' that has some cute jungle animals - I'm stitching the alphabet from that too (DD will be sick of alphabets!) but it's a huge design so may not be suitable.

They do have individual animal designs though but I'm not sure how widely available they are.

Gee, I must have some cute jungle animals in my stash. Also, Issue #73 of Jill Oxton's Cross stitch and Beading has the cutest monkeys balancing on buttons-one reason I bought the magazine.
